Why I Redesigned My Blog

redesignStyle Me Up turns 5 in December 2015 and it has been quite a journey.  I started it as a hobby and completely enjoyed it.  I am an IT Services Manager in the public sector at the time I was sure I missed my vocation and that I should be doing something to do with fashion, shopping or spending lots of money!!!

I had wanted to blog about fashion and style and had even thought about moving into styling or fashion buying.  I was simply going to blog about things I was interested in and that were catching my eye.  Fashion, clothes, makeup and shopping.  I loved reading fashion magazines and styling looks, I enjoyed browsing and shopping and loved bargains and deals.

In 2011 my life changed dramatically, I found a new church and my little sister Lizzie passed away.  I encountered a God who held me through it and Jesus who accepts me as I am, a stark contrast to my previous views.  I now serve and lead in my local church.  I blogged slightly less as my family, church and job changed every major aspect of my life was completely unrecognisable to how it was before.

I still popped up every now and again with a few failed attempts at blogging what was going on – I still loved it but was changing and growing as a person.  My feelings about my job were dramatically different and I was realising how materialistic I had actually been.  I fell like my priorities were shifting and I was definitely enjoying the ride.

The purchase of my new home and starting to get fit and healthy were journeys I wanted to blog about but didn’t really fit into my fashion blog – I did it anyway but was conscious my blog may not really mirror who I was.  The rise of so called “lifestyle” blogs got me thinking.

In July 2015 I applied for an exit package with my job.  For years I had been a workaholic and loved my job, this role was different and I was beginning to think I wasn’t interested in working up the corporate ladder or that maybe I would like to do something different.  When I was accepted for the package I thought about a few of the things I wanted to do before getting back into the workforce and along with some training courses in social media and events management getting back into my blogging was something I really wanted to try.  I had also always wondered about writing an ebook about my story and thought a blogging platform would be useful to have that one.  With this, and a little bit of over excitement, I started making some loose plans – along with that, some coincidences (that I like to refer to as “God-incidences) made me determined to give it another go!

I posted here about my new adventure and this is one of the the first posts on my new site I will post in a week or two HOW I went about it and some links to valuable links.

In the meantime what would you like to see on rachel.jobes.com? Have you came over from stylemeup.co.uk?  What were your favourite things about the site and what changes would you like to see?

Amazing story Rach! What an incredible journey. I love God-incidences, they’re so exciting because you never know what will happen, you just know it’s going to be awesome! I’d love to hear more about how you work out what you want to do next, whatever that is =)
