The Giving Keys

Most days last week I received an email from The Giving Keys about something new they were introducing.  I tagged family members in some Instagram pics as a hint for Christmas, and sent a link out too but it seemed each and every email I wanted that thing a little more than the last!  With the completely fabulous key earrings from Fridays mail I decided to do a quick post to highlight some of the new things.

First let me tell you a little bit about The Giving Keys and what  they do.  As a company The Giving Keys employ people who are transitioning out of homelessness – but how exactly did they start?

Actress and singer/songwriter, Caitlin Crosby, started wearing an old hotel key as a necklace while on tour and had the idea to start engraving old, used keys with inspirational words. Realizing that, in a way, we are all like these keys – unique, flawed, scarred, and sometimes discarded by others – she wanted these keys to have their purpose renewed over and over again.  Then on a rainy day walking on Hollywood Boulevard, Caitlin saw a couple named Rob and Cera sitting under an umbrella.  Caitlin invited them to dinner, where she serendipitously discovered that Cera made jewelry. This was a magical a-ha moment where Caitlin asked them to be her business partners. Rob and Cera joined the team and started making Giving Keys the very next day.

In March of 2013, The Giving Keys began partnering with Chrysalis to help find more employees who were looking for a second chance. Chrysalis is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating a pathway to self-sufficiency for homeless and low-income individuals by providing the resources and support needed to find and retain employment.

So now you know a little more about them and the work they do why not take a look at some of the newer pieces they have introduced!

The lock Collection

A different design to the key.  “Inspired by words that unlock potential.  There is something valuable waiting to be unlocked in you.” the locks were designed in 3 different designs Classic, Dainty and Rebel.

My personal favourite is the Rebel Lock in vintage silver and I would definitely choose the word COURAGE or STRENGTH

The Dainty Infinity Necklace was also launched this week, using a smaller key that lies flat and is paired with a delicate chain.  While we are talking about the Dainty range you have to check out the Dainty bangle too I absolutely love them they would be so simple and classic worn alone or look great stacked together.

The only thing that would change my mind about the Dainty bangle would be the email I received the next day about the new Key Cuff.  I have been looking at cuff / mantra bracelets for a while to stack up together and maybe wear with a Dainty bangle, I had a set of words i wanted a bangle for each with a few plain bangles to make up the look.

Finally, and the one that might get me into trouble, as I’m not sure I can put it on my Christmas list and patiently wait until then is the Key Earring.  Since getting my hair cut off I hardly wear any of my large earring collection, and certainly not any of my long / dangly earrings that I used to love so much.  I am always looking at studs and small earrings to wear and these are so so cute.

One earring has your inspirational word and the other has a stone in (made from eco-friendly diamonds).  Again available in three words but it’s hard to not want all three, I absolutely love the look of these!

Why not head over to the website and have a browse, take a short while to look through the stories in “Pay It Forward” and you know what – why not pick your word and then gift your key / lock to someone who needs it or get it for your word for 2016 and see how your story unfolds!
